Apply Today – Upcoming Young Artist Conference, Songwriting Competitions!

Hello students and parents!

Please check out the following links for information on some great upcoming dates for young musicians and songwriters!

The Artist as Citizen Conference, New York City

Deadline to apply: May 15, 2014

The Artist as Citizen Conference is presented byArtists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), an NYC-based non-profit that connects performing and visual artists with underserved youth in the US and around the world. Founded in 2005 by Broadway Musical Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell and some of her students at Juilliard, ASTEP was conceived to transform the lives of children using the most powerful tool they had – their art. Appropriately, the conference will be hosted by The Juilliard School, and borrows its name and founding principles from a book by Juilliard’s current president, Dr. Joseph Polisi. In The Artist as Citizen, Dr. Polisi argues that “there should be no dividing line between artistic excellence and social consciousness.” This belief is fundamental to ASTEP’s mission and serves as the animating principle for the conference.  The Artist as Citizen Conference will take place June 2nd – June 6th, 2014.
